What Clotilde says Vaduz → Montreux
Head for the Klausenpass, at 1948 m, then for Altdorf, 27.3 km further on. There, William Tell has been waiting for you in his square since 1895, as a statue. He doesn't move any more, but you do! On the pastures by the pass, look for the great yellow gentian, a tall plant with star-shaped flowers. It takes almost ten years to bloom: you have until tonight.
Montreux → Vaduz
In Altdorf, say hello to William Tell and take the path to the alpine pastures: 9 h 15 min of walking to the Urner Boden, one of the longest days of the journey. Start early! At the Klausenpass, at 1948 m, you stay in Uri, even on the far side. On the pastures, the great yellow gentian sometimes tops a metre: it looks down on you.
