Personal data
No cookies, no advertising trackers, no account. Your player profile stays on your device, and nowhere else.
Your flight log (the places you found, the sites you read, your favourites), your backpack (stamps, treasures, specialities, tickets), your pilot’s licence (levels, feats, patches, distance and flight time, the date of your first flight, and what you spotted on the way: the peaks, passes and valleys you approached, the neighbouring countries you saw, the places your balloon landed, where you left it) and your settings (quality, sound, navigation) are stored by your browser, on your machine. On the site’s pages, it also remembers your light or dark theme and, for as long as the tab is open, the way back to the map. None of this is sent to me. You can refuse this storage by blocking site data in your browser or by playing in a private window: the game works, but forgets your game. Clearing the site data clears everything; a new game clears the game and keeps the settings.
Visits are measured with Plausible, free audience-measurement software that I host myself on a Hetzner server in Finland. For every page read and a few moves of the game (a destination or a site opened, the licence, the nature guide or a species’ card viewed, a stamp, a patch, a treasure, a riddle, a tool, a quest step, a speciality, a ticket, a level or a feat earned, a species met, a new game), your browser sends it the address of the page, the page you came from, the width of your window and the name of what was opened or earned. Plausible uses your IP address and your browser to estimate your country and count the day’s visitors, without keeping them: no cookie, nothing that recognises you from one day to the next, and it produces totals only. You can refuse this measurement: turn on “Don’t count my visits” on this page. Your browser remembers that choice on this device (it is not a cookie), Plausible no longer receives anything from you, and the game works just the same; clearing the site data undoes it.
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc., an American company whose servers are located in the United States among other places; it is certified under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the Swiss Federal Council recognises as ensuring an adequate level of protection. Like any web server, Vercel’s and Plausible’s servers record your IP address in technical logs, kept briefly, for the security and the running of the site. It is never used to identify you or to follow you.
The release videos, on “Discover” and on each version’s page, only load if you click them. They then come from YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com), a service of Google LLC in the United States, which receives your IP address and records what YouTube records during playback, under its own privacy policy. Without a click, nothing is sent to Google.
If you write to me, your message and your address are used only to reply to you. You can ask me which data concern you, have them corrected or deleted, and contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). The game asks for no name, no age, no address: nothing in it identifies a child. In case of doubt between languages, the French version prevails.
The relief is a caricature made for play, exaggerated and simplified: it must not be used for navigation, nor to plan a day in the mountains.
