The flight companions change how you read the game, never what it gives you. They wait in the backpack, greyed out until you get them.

Your flying companion: call it, it follows your balloon and lands beside what the compass points to.

The compass

From the start, the compass points to the nearest town you have not visited yet, or to the course you have set. The treasure compass builds on it: it also leads to treasures, riddles and quest steps, and tells you “Here!” when you are there.

The chough

The chough is not a gift: you meet it in the mountains. Once you have met it, call it: it follows your balloon and lands near what your compass points to. Send it away whenever you like, with no penalty.
