What Clotilde says

Along the way

  • Martinsloch Twice a year, in March and at the start of autumn, the morning sun shines through this hole in the rock of the Tschingelhörner and lights up Elm's church tower for a few minutes.
  • The Elm landslide Hollowed out by slate quarries, part of a mountain collapsed onto Elm on 11 September 1881. The disaster killed 114 people.
  • Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona Around Elm, very old layers of rock lie on top of much younger ones, and the line between them can be seen with the naked eye. This geological feature earned the region its place on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2008.
